At Broad Hinton Church of England School, we believe that sporting opportunities for all children are essential to their education, their well-being and whole child development. Thus our sporting grant from the Department for Education is spent wisely and to benefit all in a variety of ways. These include:
- employing specialist PE coaches for weekly PE sessions with two classes to develop the sporting skills of children and teaching and learning skills of the teachers
- opportunities for community coaches from a variety of local sports clubs to work alongside the teacher and children to widen participation and introduce new sports to the children
- enhancement of PE resources for lessons, playground resources and outdoor learning areas
- subsidised activities for children throughout the school and for vulnerable families
The impact of these activities include:
- Staff more confident with teaching PE
- Staff have deeper subject knowledge and more creative activities to stimulate development of skills
- Children’s enjoyment and key skills improved
- Children to experience high quality PE teaching with a qualified coach
- Quality of PE delivery has increased significantly
- Increased number of children participating in after-school clubs for enjoyment and to increase fitness levels
- Develop skills for competitive festivals
- Vulnerable groups of children exposed to sports and activities not experienced before and thus all children progress, no matter what their starting points
- More-able children identified and given further opportunities at the dance festival, and publicly recognised
- Staff and children able to access a variety of – and correct – equipment and resources for PE lessons and playground times
- Enhanced outdoor learning in all areas of the curriculum for EYFS and KS1 pupils, which has contributed to raising attainment and progress.
