Our curriculum design and teaching of the skills and knowledge of each subject is based on a thematic approach which encourages and enhances the talents of all. All children of every ability and culture are encouraged to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of subjects that they are interested in. The thematic approach allows for children to develop their basic skills of reading and writing through other medium and literature. Our broad and balanced topic based curriculum encompasses all subjects each term. To see our cross curricular approach and coverage of subjects in each team see parent overviews below.
To find out more about the coverage for each subject for each year group please follow the link to the National Curriculum. For Early Years skills and coverage see the ‘Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework‘ and for our own school topic coverage, follow the link overview of topics.
We use Little Wandle (a synthetic phonics scheme by Letters and Sounds) as the basis for phonics and we use a variety of reading schemes throughout the school to match the individual needs of the children. Phonics is taught in year groups with a teacher/teaching assistant leading the groups. It is taught 5 days a week with small groups dependent being used for intervention work based on the individual needs. Early reading is part of the teaching using the Little Wandel and books associated with the teaching of synthetic phonics are used accordingly.
Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) is taught weekly in each class and this is based on the SCARF scheme. (SCARF: Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship (coramlifeeducation.org.uk)
REMOTE EDUCATION: In the event of the school being closed for unforeseen circumstances, parents will be directed to SeeSaw, our online communication platform, which will outline the learning for the period of time the school is closed.
