Our School and Church Community Intertwined

‘A love of learning for a lifetime of opportunities’           ‘LOVE, CARE AND RESPECT’

Through discussion amongst staff, governors and pupils, the inspiration for our vision and values were taken from the story the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10; 25-37): The expert of the law asked Jesus, “ How do I get eternal life?…..The law says, love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbour as yourself… but who is my neighbour?”  Jesus then told the story of the Good Samaritan to teach the expert of the law that your neighbour is everyone and to help and support anyone, anywhere not just your direct neighbour.  It talks about community and one big family and everyone must look out for each other, being thoughtful and having respect.  It is from here that our vision is so clearly articulated in love, care and respect.

This vision is bespoke and designed to meet the needs of our local community and to develop each individual as good citizens, ready for their future learning and aspirations for life. We serve a very white British community with a minority of different cultures so therefore it is our duty to develop the environment in the ethos of LOVE, CARE AND RESPECT for all, including those from different cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.  Our curriculum is clearly designed to meet the needs of all children and to educate them into the wider community, hence the driver of ‘A love of learning for a lifetime of opportunities’. Because the vision and values of the school has a high profile, they have an impact on the whole ethos of the school and the life skills that they acquire.  This is one way we can demonstrate the inclusivity of our school.

Our school’s Christian vision is a thread throughout all policies and practices, particularly thinking of the development of the whole child and their contribution back into society and the local community, e.g.: community ambassadors, environmental action, food bank etc.

The staff and governors approach all school life through listening and an ‘open door’ policy; then any actions will be conducted with respect and love and care of the child and the parents, e.g.: letters and cards from families.
